Anyone who meets Oli Emmenegger quickly realizes that this is a true practitioner with a passion for craftsmanship and interpersonal skills. For almost two decades, he has shaped MVM AG in Lucerne with his experience, dedication, and clear commitment to quality, customer service, and team spirit. We spoke with Oli about his career, his daily work, and his motivation – and gained a fascinating insight into the life of a true professional.
From trained painter to mold expert
Oliver Emmenegger began his career in a classic way – with an apprenticeship as a painter with Ruedi Sonderegger in Littau from 1987 to 1990. He was drawn abroad early on: almost three months in America broadened his horizons. This was followed by formative years at Maler Erismann AG (1994–2004), where he quickly assumed responsibility and simultaneously trained as a foreman.
In 2004, he joined MVM AG as a foreman. After a brief stint at a plastering company, he returned to MVM – this time in a new role: as head of the painting department. Today, Oli is head of customer service for painting at MVM AG, a mold expert, and a member of the Swiss Painters and Plasterers Association (SPR). He also represents MVM AG at the Lucerne Painters Association.
Oliver Emmenegger: A structured everyday life with plenty of flexibility
His workday begins early: Oliver Emmenegger is already in the office between 05:30 and 6:00 a.m. Checking emails, setting priorities, and then handing over files to employees—that's a structured start to his day. Ideally, the first appointments on the construction site begin at 9:30 a.m., usually preceded by phone calls. The morning is dedicated to customer visits, and the afternoon is spent writing quotes and invoices.
"Customer service means working hard," says Oli. His goal: to have all the day's quotes completed by evening. In addition to traditional project management, his responsibilities also include employee support, site inspections, and work on the order. One thing is clear: for him, routine meets precision – and passion.
The joy of customer contact
What motivates Oli? "The challenge of satisfying customers. I don't want to take any pending tasks home with me." This attitude runs like a thread through his work. Customer feedback is extremely important to him—especially the positive feedback his department consistently receives.
"Customers appreciate our speed and flexibility," emphasizes Oliver Emmenegger. This is precisely one of the greatest highlights of his time at MVM: creating lasting customer satisfaction through hard work and quality work.
Networking works
For Oli, active participation in a professional business network is a key success factor. "It's about recommending each other and benefiting from one another." MVM also clearly sees the added value – through new business contacts, additional orders, and increased market visibility. For Oli, one thing is clear: networks like this are an ideal complement to traditional referral marketing.
Looking ahead: What could be improved?
If Oli could change or introduce anything at MVM, it would be a stronger awareness of the company's identity. "I hope our employees don't just work at MVM, but also make MVM visible – both internally and externally." It's about actively cultivating the company's image and further strengthening identification with MVM – with customers, competitors, and within the team.
Balancing on two wheels – and with a trumpet
Oli knows: A balance to work is important. His recipe? Exercise – two to three times a week. Whether cycling, skiing, or at the gym – exercise is a must for him. He also spends time with his family. Oli is married to Silvia and, together with their two sons, Lionel (15) and Leandro (14), life is rarely boring.
Another centerpiece of his life is the Lucerne Carnival: Oli is an active "Fassnächtler" (Fassnächtler) and a member of the arguably unique men's Guggenmusik group, the Altstadtkanone. The last men's Guggenmusik group from the old town with a single woman. This year, he bears the title of "Oberstopfer" (Emperor). He also finds social relaxation through playing Jassen (card games) and the "Pasta Vino" wine and cooking club.
Passion for craftsmanship: Oliver Emmenegger
For Oli, good craftsmanship means much more than just technique: "I've worked a lot with putty lime myself and I'm skilled with a trowel. The relationship between little money and something beautiful fascinates me." His own home is anything but a place with white walls—it's an expression of creativity and personality.
MVM: Loyalty, structure and team spirit
What does Oli particularly appreciate about MVM AG? "The entrepreneurial freedom, the loyalty, and the clear structures." No other company has kept him there for as long—a clear sign of identification and trust. "I can't imagine doing this job at any other company." He values the professional expertise and mutual support within his team—even when everyone doesn't know something themselves.
What distinguishes MVM from others
“The clear structure and the broad expertise,” Oli cites as striking differences to other employers. MVM We offer not only painting work, but also a diverse portfolio of plastering and other trade services. This ensures short internal lines of communication and comprehensive external solutions from a single source.
And for anyone considering working at MVM?
Oli sums it up: "You can only benefit—you won't be disappointed. You'll be pleasantly surprised."
